We are in a great position to help the older LGBTQ+ generation. We are invited into the homes of our clients, but how do we break down barriers for LGBTQ+ clients? Employee training is probably the most important element of providing LGBTQ+ clients with welcoming and inclusive care. For Care Assist Inc., it’s not about training our clinicians on how to care for someone differently, it’s about understanding the LGBTQ+ struggle and how that makes people feel. It’s about making LGBTQ+ clients feel comfortable. We understand there will be a level of skepticism from our clients because they don’t know who will be coming into their homes. We understand that providing very personal care to clients requires ongoing cultural competency and inclusivity training, which is done at all levels of our agency.
